A beautiful Mallard duck just taking flight against a clear blue sky.
Have you been lucky enough to see a Mallard duck out in the sun? They have iridescent feathers that reflect green, blue and especially a rich purple. When they spread their wings the effect is wonderful. Nature shows her preference for beautiful animals with a Mallard duck.
Created in the Tiffany style of stained glass. Each piece is hand cut, hand sized, and edge wrapped in copper foil. Next the pieces are assembled into the pattern design and soldered together. A patina has been applied to darken the lead lines which cause the stained glass to emerge showing its’ depth and color in amazing ways. We have applied two coast of high quality wax to protect the finish of the piece. A ring is soldered at the top for hanging/display. Overall in a hanging position the piece measures approximately 7″H x 7″W.
You see no solder lines around the eye? We did not agree with using model paints or gluing a piece for the eye onto the duck’s head. Using either one of these leads to a questionable state of quality over the longterm. We drilled the green glass for the head then made a small black “eye” and placed it into the hole we drilled. Next the head was placed into the kiln and fired to 1350°f and fused the eye into the head. It seems a much cleaner look and will not come apart being permanently fused together as one solid piece.
